The challenge

Stadium MK in Milton Keynes, England is home to the MK Dons, a popular football club. Catering to the ever-growing demand for capacity to host large-scale events, the Dons’ ground underwent a major development, including expansion of the stadium itself (increasing capacity from 22,000 to 32,000), the construction of a new retail park and 600 parking spaces and all the accompanying infrastructure to support the expansion.

The whole scheme for the Stadium and the addition of the surrounding retail development was predicted to bring a significant number of jobs to Milton Keynes and the wider Southeast Midlands area in the UK, giving a significant boost to the local economy and enable the completion of the iconic Stadium MK.

As part of the project, the lead contractor selected the ViaCon Group’s stormwater tanks as a part of the stormwater attenuation system.

The solution

The stormwater solution was designed to minimise its size at the same time as maximising its operational efficiency. Because the first eight units in retail development A, like the rest of the finished site, were all hard surface, a stormwater discharge of 65 litres/second was specified. This was comfortably met by changing the choice of flow regulator to a slower discharge.

The ViaCon advantage

Choosing ViaCon as a stormwater attenuation solution helped to realise:

• Cost savings
• Ease of installation: Robust, light to handle, easy to access, short learning curve for new installers
• Faster installation
• Durability: Long-lifespan materials with less need for maintenance
